With Earth day just a week away, I wanted to share some of the best options you can find when looking to furnish your home with eco-friendly options. I’ve chosen to share those that are both eco-friendly and have options that could work well in a coastal style home. Some pieces have a vintage, time worn feel for a casual setting, but there are also some great options for a more contemporary home, too.
I have to start with Vanguard Furniture. I’m a little biased because I’ve carried this line in my Southatmpon store for 8 years. This North Carolina furniture manufacturer had been in business for over 40 years and is a founding member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council. So, if you are looking for a sofa, chair, headboard, etc. that is made with sustainable practices, look no further. Here’s why.
- Vanguard Furniture is a zero waste manufacturer. Nothing goes to the land fill.
- They provide eco-friendly cushion options. You can choose cushions made with bi-hybrid foam reducing the use of petroleum based products and off-gassing in your home.
- They have a great range of natural materials or you can go COM (customer’s own material) if you prefer recycled or organic and you can’t find it in the thousands of fabric options they provide
Plus, their collections have styles that range from cottage to contemporary!

Europe 2 You is another great source for eco-friendly pieces like dining tables and shelves for those who want to add a little vintage charm to your coastal home. You can also found their pieces in our Southampton store and online shop
- Use of reclaimed materials
- Found objects. They give new life to old pieces

Copeland Furniture is a line that I plan to see on my trip to High Point this weekend. I love the clean lines of their Axis Collection, great for those of you looking for some transitional pieces.
- They use sustainably harvested North American hardware from within 500 miles of their factory.
- They are also an Exemplary Silver Member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council
- They use Greenguard Certified finishes for low emissions in your home.

Lamon Luther is a company I first saw on my trip to Atlanta’s AmericasMart this past January. I love the lighter finishes they’ve introduced. The texture of the reclaimed wood is a great addition to any coastal home.
- They use reclaimed materials
- They manufacture in the USA
- They employ homeless carpenters “building hope and creating opportunity for homeless carpenters. We achieve this by putting tools in their hands, and building the finest handcrafted furniture in the world.”
Check out the TEDxAtlanta talk. The company story is very inspirational.
