How to Create a Cozy Coastal Thanksgiving Vibe

Creating a warm, welcoming vibe in our clients’ homes is central to what we do at Sea Green Designs. So I thought it would be perfect to talk about how to get a cozy coastal feel for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

Because welcoming friends and family into your home is what the holiday season is all about, no? But some people get stumped about how to get that coastal feel for Thanksgiving. The traditional fall harvest colors may not be a palette you want to work with.

Well that’s not a problem! While coastal style takes its inspiration from the ocean, it’s possible to bring an attitude of gratitude and abundance into your home. Let’s go over how to use the right color palette and natural textures to create those cozy coastal Thanksgiving vibes in your own home.

Use Traditional Decor in a Neutral Palette

The ubiquitous symbol of Thanksgiving abundance is no longer only available in screaming bright orange. Heirloom pumpkins are available in a variety of colors that suit a neutral coastal palette, from white to cream to watery blue to a pale sunset orange.

Keep it streamlined by clustering one color all together. A tablescape of all white pumpkins creates a soothing yet festive look. Or line pumpkins in similar hues on your mantel for a festive, abundant feel.

If you want something that will last through the years, go a little glam with these gorgeous handmade velvet pumpkins in a blue or white palette.

Set a Neutral Coastal Thanksgiving Tablescape

Sticking with a neutral coastal palette for your Thanksgiving table will help you keep the beach vibe going. Even if you lean more minimal, you still want to create a feeling of abundance for the holiday meal. Now’s the time when you can go a little over the top and show your generosity to your friends and family!

Start by setting the table with coastal holiday flare using pieces from our Holiday Hamptons Tabletop Collection. I especially love the Tourron stoneware for a Thanksgiving table. The jade interior brings a pop of coastal color, while the unglazed exterior creates a rustic elegant feel that’s perfect for welcoming dear friends and family to your table. Use the large serving bowl to display a bounty of fall fruit when it’s not being used for the big meal.

Use floral arrangements in complementary colors, or stick with a creamy white. A row of mini white pumpkins and white hydrangeas on top of a natural jute table runner would make a beautiful coastal Thanksgiving centerpiece. You could also stick with the traditional autumn leaves or wheat stalks and pair these with pops of ocean hues. Cobalt blue would be a great coastal color choice here—try adding it via candlesticks, vases, or serving pieces.

Use Natural Materials for a Cozy Coastal Thanksgiving

Here’s where both coastal style and Thanksgiving decor blend seamlessly: using natural materials. In coastal style we take our inspiration from the sea, sand, and sky. And for the holiday we give thanks to the land that provides for us. So using natural materials is a given!

The beauty of using natural materials is you can keep the palette neutral to fit with your overall theme.

Try a coastal wreath for your Thanksgiving decor. This one with watery blues, deep greens, and the pop of mustard is a beautiful blend of traditional autumn and ocean hues. The starfish act as the icing on the cake and keep this wreath firmly in the coastal camp.

Even something as simple as a dish overflowing with these carved wooden hearts creates a welcoming, abundant, natural vibe.
